Hydrotherapy is an excellent way to help with exercise and rehabilitation. It allows good exercise of the muscles while putting less strain on bones and joints than walking on land. The buoyancy of the water helps to support your dog’s body.
We often recommend hydrotherapy along with physiotherapy. Our nurses are trained in physiotherapy exercises and can teach owners to carry these out at home.
Our hydrotherapy underwater treadmill is located at our Wellesbourne surgery.
Treatment is undertaken by one of three of our qualified veterinary nurses under the direction of your pet’s veterinary surgeon.
Sessions last for about 30 minutes which includes short periods of water-walking with rest periods and time to dry off your pet at the end. Generally twice-weekly treatments are recommended, although in some cases these may be more or less frequent.
Most dogs thoroughly enjoy their water-walking experience and we have seen massive progress in a number of our regular patients.
We even have a 16 year old cat who loves his Hydrotherapy sessions.
